Restricted views of landscape beyond the immediate confines of the row

Restricted distant view at Rhos y Beddau stone row in Mid Wales

Compared to some types of visual landscape link, examples of rows where restricted views of landscape beyond the immediate confines of the row are relatively rare.  This may in part be a result of this phenomenon being identified relatively recently and the reliance on decent visibility at the time of the visits.  There are therefore almost certainly more examples of this form of visual link. The significance of this particular form of landscape link is unclear, but it may be significant that they often involve passes through hills or mountains. Alternatively the focussed view of distant lands may have been of significance to the row builders who wherever possible incorporated it into their design. We can only ever guess at the possible motives for incorporating this type of visual link into their rows, but the result provides an enhancement of the many rows settings and provides further evidence that the row builders were interested or perhaps even obsessed in the limit of visibility.
