Category: Possible. Dense vegetation combined with different grid references and descriptions together with the known presence of a prehistoric field system in this area means that there is a degree of uncertainty regarding the identity of this site. The field visit in 2018 identified a stone at SS 85612 42129 which is close to the pair of stones shown by the Ordnance Survey mapping but in a different location to the depiction of the scheduled monument. The Exmoor Historic Environment shows the row at two different locations. There is clearly a great deal of confusion and whilst this does not mean that there is no row in this area it is probably safest to assign it to the possible category for the moment pending a future field visit.
This stone row is of Type S7. Information on this form of stone row and other rows of this type is available here.
This stone may form part of the stone row. The stone measures 0.52m long by 0.20m wide, stands 0.42m high and is orientated at 95°. View from north east (Scale 1m).
Limited parking is available either at SS 86391 42405 or SS 86107 41919.
