Featured Row – Sheriff Muir

The Sheriff Muir row includes a line of five large stones. The row stands beside the major routeway from Stirling towards the north of Scotland. It is likely that this routeway was of significance in the prehistoric period, but certainly was used in historic times when two armies clashed nearby in 1715.  The ancient road can still be seen as it survives as a series of deep holloways formed by years of intensive use. One of the stones is known as the Wallace Stone which implies an association with William Wallace. A row steeped in both prehistoric and historic events.
